Premier Plan Frequently Asked Questions




In order to better serve you, the answer to most questions for enrolling or waiving the Premier Plan can be found on this website. Below are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Q. Can I fax in an Acceptance or Waiver Form?

A. To improve the accuracy of information, the Student Health Insurance Office has moved to a paperless process for the Acceptance or Waiver Forms, as have many other Departments. Student's must accept or waive online through MyAccess. Review the Premier Plan Enrollment and Waiver information for details.

Q. I never received an insurance ID card, how do I get one?

A. Insurance ID cards are sent to the students' local address on file in the Registrar's Office by the Gallagher Koster insurance agency after open enrollment, which ends September 15. During Open Enrollment students may print an ID card two weeks after accepting the Premier Plan online, but not before August 14, by logging onto Gallagher Koster Student Access website.

Q. What are the Fall Coverage Dates?

A. The Fall coverage dates are August 15, 2009, through August 14, 2010, regardless of when a student graduates.

Q. What is the Fall Open Enrollment Period?

A. The Fall Open Enrollment Period is July 2009 through September 15, 2009.

Q. What are the Spring Coverage Dates?

A. The Spring coverage dates are January 1, 2010, through August 14, 2010, regardless of when a student graduates.

Q. What is the Spring Open Enrollment Period?

A. The Spring Open Enrollment Period is December 2009 through January 2010.

Q. If I waive the Premier Plan in the Fall can I change my mind and enroll in the Plan during the Spring Open Enrollment Period?

A. No, each student has only one open enrollment opportunity per plan year.

Q. If I am charged for the Premier Plan, will I remain eligible for the Plan?

A. To remain eligible for the Premier Plan, students must be enrolled in the required number of credit hours and actively attend classes for the first 31 days.

Q. Are pre-existing conditions covered?

A. Pre-existing conditions are covered if the condition or treatment is not specifically excluded or limited per the Exclusions and Limitations in Description of Benefits Booklet, see page 26.

Q. What are the benefits covered?

A. A summary of the medically necessary benefits covered is located in the Description of Benefits Booklet, see page 12. Please review the entire booklet for benefit details.

Q. Does the Premier Plan provide coverage worldwide?

A. Yes, reimbursement for treatment outside the U.S. would be paid according to Schedule 3 in the Description of Benefits Booklet, see page 12.

Q. I've reviewed the materials on the website, but still have questions, who should I contact?

A. If you can't find the answer to your question on this website, refer to the contact page inside the front cover of the Description of Benefits Booklet for information on who to contact with your specific concern.

Q. If I waived the Premier Plan and then become involuntarily uninsured in the middle of the academic year due to age or employment, can I pick up the Premier Plan in mid-year?

A. Yes, as long as you enroll within 31 days of being "involuntarily dropped" and provide official written proof that you were involuntarily dropped from your other insurance. Please contact the GU Student Health Insurance Office for access to the online late enrollment form.

Q. My son is covered under my plan as long as he is full-time at school, but he is dropping to part-time in the Spring. Can he enroll in the Premier Plan in the Spring?

A. Probably not, if he is taking too few credit hours to meet the eligibility requirements. However, your COBRA Plan offered by your employer may be an option. Otherwise, he should enroll in the Premier Plan in the Fall.

Q. I'm a full-time student scheduled to graduate in December, may I purchase the Premier Plan for the Fall Semester only?

A. No. The coverage term for eligible full-time students who enroll in the Fall ends August 14, 2010. The coverage remains in effect after graduation and the coverage is worldwide.
