Community Comes Together at Midnight Breakfast

Midnight Breakfast is a long-standing tradition at Georgetown University. Each semester faculty and administrators put on their aprons and brave the heat of the dining hall to serve up a study break for hungry students! The Leo J. O’Donovan, S.J. Dining Hall serves as the host to this most anticipated event. Students wait all semester for free tater tots, French toast sticks, and scrambled eggs to be served up by their favorite faculty and staff members. In coordination with Resident Dining Services, the Assistant Director of Orientation and Leadership Programs, and the Freshman and Sophomore Class Committees, Midnight Breakfast is implemented by providing volunteers for set-up and clean-up and recruiting faculty and administrators to participate in this program.

Some Midnight Breakfast regulars include Vice-President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Dr. Todd Olson, Associate Vice-President for Student Affairs, Jeanne Lord, and many other representatives from the Division of Student Affairs as well as Professor Joan Riley, School of Nursing and Health Studies, and Professor Ian Gale, Georgetown College. Campus Ministry also supports the event in large numbers, particularly with the coordination of juice distribution under the direction of Pamela Galligan-Stierle, Director of the Chaplains-in-Residence program. This year the study break will be held on December 13, the first Monday of exams, from 10pm until midnight on the lower level of the O’Donovan Dining Hall. -Kristan Cilente
