Hoya Family Newsletter: February 12, 2026
Dear Hoya Families,
VP Finals week has just concluded! That’s what I call this period of time when the bosses and advisors come to campus: Board of Directors, Board of Governors, Board of Regents, Parent Leadership Council. In short, it means: good food, good conversation, lots of PowerPoint.
Regrettably, you kinda needed an ice pick to get around DC. Happily, campus looked great. The conversations were rich, and I found myself using the podium to emphasize the importance of dissonance in the student experience.
The dissonance rests in the understanding that we come to Georgetown called by values rooted in hope. As you heard me say during GAAP weekend, only one of the dozen values focuses on being smart (AKA academic excellence). The others call us to be good people in complex times — people who think beyond ourselves and activate meaningful impact to advance the common good.
Those values may seem contradictory in dissonant times: civil wars, elections, famine, pandemics. Yet they remain. Stronger. Truer. All my meetings brought our students to the table to show our “why” is resolute and our values rest within each and every student.
Beyond the PowerPoint, there is a student. Transformed by us — a community of families and educators — who seek to love and provoke them. Thank you for joining me in this work and sharing your Hoyas with us. We’re up to lots of good.
All good things,
Dr. Eleanor JB Daugherty, EdD
Vice President for Student Affairs
