We want to keep you in the know about the resources and processes available as you support your student in their journey on campus. The Hoya Family Newsletter is sent out biweekly on Thursdays during the academic year and features stories, events, and University news and updates to help you stay connected. This includes a message from the Vice President of Student Affairs, as well as other content relevant to families.

Hoya Family Newsletter: May 21, 2026
Hello Hoya Families,
Hope that you work for.
I spent the last several days witnessing hope. As the university proceeded through commencement exercises, we wore our regalia (yes, I was wearing Columbia Lion) and processed through crowds of families, graduates and friends cheering us all on to the finish line.
I listened. The number of language proficiency exams, clinical hours and internships were not the cause of celebration. Sure they mattered. But what our speakers shared, from students to former state department leaders, was the importance of earning hope.
Our Hoyas celebrate the knowledge that a “hope-filled future” is one we must all work towards. It is not an assumption, it is an effort. We accept dissonance, diversity and disruption when it yields deeper listening and discovery. We are Hoyas who seek hope. It was a joy witnessing hope in action this week.
We all did. I’m attaching the following pic to celebrate and acknowledge all of you. Your students and I don’t do this work alone. Enjoy this moment: students proudly lined up while parents and loved ones, arms aching with camera phones in the air, cheer them on.
And to my returning and incoming families, there’s more to be done and I’m already looking forward to your return. My team and I will be exploring the U.S. this summer as we welcome our new Hoyas for Hello Hoyas! Join us!
